Simbavati River Lodge
Have you heard of this new addition to the Timbavati Game Reserve?
An adult bull Elephant approaches the River to take a drink of water before retreating up the river bank and disappearing from view behind the trees. That was the sight that greeted me upon arrival at the new Simbavati River Lodge. And all this before I had even set a foot out of the car!
Situated on the banks of the Nhlalarumi River in the Timbavati Game Reserve, lies Simbavati River Lodge. The open plan reception area that you see upon arrival leads directly out onto the raised deck which offers a direct view of the river and all the game that come to drink there.
Accomodation is split between either 3 2-bedroomed chalets or 4 Luxury tents. While the 2 bedroomed chalets are perfect for families, the tents are geared more towards couples. The beds can be split into twins in the tents if needed though. All of the units have decks that face out onto the river, perfect for watching the game that frequent it, without having to leave the chalet.
The game viewing overall was fantastic! Having arrived late, we were sheparded onto a game vehicle to try and see if we could find any animals before the darkness of the evening decended upon us. I was quite sceptical that we would see anything more than plains game given that it was almost 17h00 in the evening when we left the lodge.
However I an pleased to say that I was wrong! Not only did we see a wealth of plains game, we also spotted 4 of the Big 5. Leopard in a tree practically on the doorstep of the lodge, rhino's and elephants with young calves and a pride of lions who had just finished dinner (thankfully before we arrived!). Our early morning coffee on the deck was accompanied by views of a herd of Kudu drinking from the river and pair of croc's coming to tan on the river banks, not forgetting the hippos who woke us up in the morning!
Overall the lodge is definitely value for money and you can be assured that visitors will be more than happy with the service and offerings of the lodge. Well worth the visit!
