Johannesburg (2 nights)
Day 1 – Johannesburg
On arrival in Johannesburg you are met and taken on to your hotel of choice. At lunch time you depart for an afternoon tour of Gold Reef City. Highlights of this tour include: Tour of Gold Reef City, a replica of old-time Johannesburg.
Travel back in time as you take a ride on a penny-farthing or stroll through the olden day houses; an underground visit; gold pour demonstration; the miners’ dancing performance. (Tuesday-Sunday)
Day 2 – Johannesburg
Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast you are collected from your hotel for a full-day Soweto and Apartheid Museum tour.
Highlights of this tour include: a fascinating glimpse of bustling neighbourhood life; two Nobel Prize winners' previous residences; the Hector Peterson memorial; Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and various community development projects.
Also included is a guided tour of the Apartheid Museum where you embark on a journey of discovery of the racial segregation experienced by millions of South Africans just over a decade ago.
The Soweto uprising, the history of the ANC, solitary confinement of political prisoners and the birth of a new democratic country are detailed. Vilakazi Street - the only street in the world to house two Nobel Prize winners!!
Day 3 – Checkout
After breakfast you are transferred to OR Tambo International Airport for your outbound flight or alternatively you could link with: 2 night Madikwe Game Reserve safari package; 2 night Greater Kruger Park safari package; and / or 2 night self-drive Panorama Route package.
